Alex Micallef is a local student-athlete at the University of Western and a member of the Men's Varsity hockey team. Currently volunteering at Niagara Orthopedic Institute as a summer student.
Alex grew up in the Niagara region playing AAA hockey in Niagara Falls and then a year of Junior B in his home town of Fort Erie. At 17 he made the jump to Junior A in Toronto. He was able to make both Jr B. and Jr. A all-star games. From his success and hard work he was recognized and continued his junior career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Alex received the RDS rookie of the year award with the Montreal Juniors.
At 19, he was awarded assistant captain of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and nominated for the Marcel-Robert Trophy. This award recognizes the top academic players in the league. Alex attended Concordia University while studying Exercise Sciences. With his passion, determination and leadership Alex was able to play his last year in the QMJHL. He finished his junior career as assistant captain of the Prince Edward Island Rocket. He attended the University of Prince Edward Island while studying full time. This would recognize him as a back-to-back nominee for the Marcel-Robert trophy in the QMJHL. He contributed on and off the ice, and was awarded the volunteer of the year award within the organization.
Alex is currently undergoing his undergraduate degree at Western University. His academic focus consists of "Honors specialization in Kinesiology".
