Elijah Antonio Cardamone

Elijah is a 16 year old Niagara Falls resident who just completed his grade 10 year at St. Paul Catholic High school. Elijah would like to thank Niagara Orthopedic Institute for selecting him to be recognized as the Robert Dionne Feature Athlete. It’s an honour to be placed in a category with so many accomplished local athletes.

As with many athletes, Elijah’s love for play and sports began at a very early age. From a hockey stick at home to the early days at the Boys and Girls club playing “Adventure Ball”, it was clear that Elijah would pursue all things sports! After learning how to glide along on 2 blades with the help of Canskate, he began his official sports career through Niagara Falls Minor Hockey programs as well as the Niagara Falls Soccer Club Titans program. After being introduced to the joy of the games and the camaraderie  associated with team sports, Elijah was successful in securing a roster spot for the Niagara Falls Canucks in Tyke Select at the age of 7. From here he decided that he loved the competitive nature of the game and continued his hockey career with the Niagara Falls Rivermen followed by years as a Niagara Falls Flyer and most recently he spent the last 3 years representing the Southern Tier Admirals as a defenceman. Through dedication and commitment Elijah and his team mates experienced many successes over the years including tournament wins, OMHA league championships and most recently, 1 win away from securing a spot in the OMHA finals prior to the COVID shut down.

At the same time that Elijah’s hockey career was excelling, he also decided to build on his soccer career. Through strong, competent and consistent coaching, Eli went from playing house league at the age of 4 to attaining a spot as a travel District competitive soccer player with the Niagara Falls Titans where he, his teammates and coaches achieved many league championships.  With a strong commitment to development, Elijah then went onto earning a spot on the  Hamilton United Elite Regional team, where once again, with the guidance of amazing coaching and strong teamwork, Eli and his team mates were league Champs and ranked 5th in Canada in their 2019 season.

Through the many years of maintaining a rigorous sports schedule, Elijah also managed his academic studies and achieved Honour roll status at Saint Paul.

Elijah is so grateful to have had the opportunity to grow and develop as an athlete and owes his many successes to his coaches and teammates as well Niagara Orthopedic Institute for helping him work through injuries as well as maintaining optimum fitness and strength.  Many thanks to Darius and Kirsten.
